Margaret's response
Initial response
I quickly scan the article and it seems very confusing! That being said, I will read the article and comment on the article by this weekend. But, just the title itself- is a scary thought!

Hmm I know what you mean Margaret. As far as the article itself goes, I think the writer goes into too much detail with the exact calculations that the teacher did and should have done. But I guess the main point is that the teacher didn't figure stuff out for herself; she just blindly trusted the internet...
ReplyDeleteI have to agree with Jessica. The main message of the article is pretty straightforward...use critical thinking skills in all parts of life (lesson planning and otherwise). I'm not sure why the author felt it necessary to spend so much time describing each minute detail of the teacher's lesson. It seems like a waste of space to me.
ReplyDeleteFinally, I am having such a hard time getting to post a comment. My problem is the same as the teacher. Making assumptions, poor judgement. She didn't check her lesson plan or the internet site. She "just" taught the lesson without any thought. Planning is very important, and her lesson and math activity would have worked out if she did some planninng and preparing.
ReplyDeleteAgain, going back to my initial comment regarding trusting an internet site? I still agree, but as anything else you need to check its validity, its reliability, and its source. Its the same thing as buying a car. You just don't buy a car without checking it out.
